3. How NUNU Food Facts Scanner Works
Barcode Scanning
NUNU Food Facts Scanner uses the device camera to recognize packaged-food barcodes.
Camera frames are analyzed on the device using Apple-provided frameworks.
NUNU Radio Media LLC does not automatically save or upload camera images or video captured during barcode scanning.
Users may also manually enter barcode numbers without using the camera.
Product Information Lookup
When a packaged-food barcode is scanned or entered, the application searches available food-information sources.
The lookup process is:
- The barcode is validated.
- Product information is requested from Open Food Facts.
- If no matching product is available, the application requests additional information through NUNU Radio Media LLC services.
- The NUNU service requests a matching record from USDA FoodData Central.
- Available product information is returned to the application.
Information may include:
- Product name
- Brand
- Ingredients
- Serving information
- Nutrition information
- Allergen information
- Product-information source
Product-Name Search
Users may search for packaged foods by entering a product name or related search terms.
Product-name searches use Open Food Facts to locate matching product records.
Label Recognition
Users may photograph a product label or select a label image from the device photo library.
Text recognition is performed on the device using Apple-provided frameworks. Recognized text may assist the user when creating or reviewing product information.
Label photographs are not automatically uploaded to NUNU Radio Media LLC.
4. Supported Features

For best results:
- Hold the device steady.

The bundled produce catalog is stored within the application. Searching the bundled catalog does not require transmitting PLU searches to NUNU Radio Media LLC or an external food database.

If a product cannot be found or does not have a barcode or PLU number, users may create a manual record.
Manual records are stored locally on the user’s device and are not automatically transmitted to NUNU Radio Media LLC.

Users may create a CSV export containing selected History information.
The export is created locally. The user decides whether and where to share or save the file through Apple-provided sharing features.
Service Diagnostics and Support Reports
The application includes diagnostic features that can check whether connected food-information services are reachable.
Users may also generate a support report containing limited technical information, such as the application version, iOS version, general device type, saved-record count, and service-availability results.
Support reports are created locally and are not automatically sent to NUNU Radio Media LLC. The user must choose whether to share a report.
