1. Introduction

NUNU Radio Media LLC (“NUNU Radio,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the NUNU Food Facts Scanner mobile application (“Food Facts Scanner” or the “App”) processes information when you scan or enter food barcodes, identify produce, search food-information sources, create local records, or use related App features.

Food Facts Scanner is designed to operate without a user account, advertising, cross-app tracking, or a server-side profile of a user’s scan history.

2. Scope of This Policy

This Policy applies specifically to NUNU Food Facts Scanner and its supporting NUNU-operated food-lookup services.

NUNU Radio’s website and other online services are governed by the separate NUNU Radio Privacy Policy. External food-information providers process requests according to their own privacy notices and terms.

3. Camera, Barcode, and PLU Recognition

Food Facts Scanner may request permission to use the device camera to recognize packaged-food barcodes and printed produce PLU numbers. Camera frames used for recognition are analyzed on the device using Apple-provided frameworks.

NUNU Radio does not automatically save or upload photographs or video captured during barcode or PLU scanning. Users may enter a barcode, PLU number, product name, or produce name manually without using the camera.

4. Package-Label Text Recognition

The App may allow a user to select or capture an image of product packaging so that text can be recognized on the device. The image is processed in memory for label-reading purposes and is not automatically uploaded to NUNU Radio.

If a user deliberately saves package evidence or a manual record, that information remains locally stored on the device until the user deletes it, removes the App, or it is affected by Apple-controlled backup and restoration features.

5. Packaged-Food Lookups

Food Facts Scanner may provide source-selection options such as Automatic, Open Food Facts, USDA, or Compare.

Open Food Facts

When Open Food Facts is selected or used by the automatic lookup process, the App transmits the entered barcode or search query to Open Food Facts to request available product information.

USDA FoodData Central

When USDA is selected, or when an automatic lookup does not find a suitable Open Food Facts result, the App may transmit the barcode or search query in the body of an encrypted HTTPS request to a NUNU Radio endpoint hosted at nunuradio.com. The NUNU service then requests available information from USDA FoodData Central and returns the result to the App.

These internet requests may include technical information ordinarily associated with a network request, such as an IP address, timestamp, requested endpoint, and user-agent information.

NUNU Radio does not use barcode or product-search requests for advertising, cross-app tracking, or the creation of an account-linked scan profile.

6. Produce Information

The App includes a bundled produce PLU catalog. Searching that local catalog does not require transmitting the PLU number to NUNU Radio or an external food database.

The App may also request general produce-reference information from USDA FoodData Central through a secure NUNU endpoint. USDA produce results are general reference records and are not an exact measurement of an individual fruit or vegetable.

7. Local Information Stored by the App

Depending on the features a user chooses to use, Food Facts Scanner may store the following information locally on the device:

Scan and lookup history;
Favorite products;
Pantry and shopping-list items;
Use-by or expiration dates;
Manual product and produce records;
Saved package evidence;
Avoid-list preferences;
App settings and source-selection preferences; and
Other records the user intentionally creates or saves.

The current version does not synchronize this local information with a NUNU Radio account or use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.

8. Sharing, Exports, and Support Reports

The App may allow a user to export selected information, share shopping-list content, or generate an optional diagnostic support report. These actions occur only when initiated by the user.

Information shared through Apple’s Share Sheet or saved to another location remains wherever the user chooses to send or store it and is subject to the privacy and retention practices of the selected recipient, application, or service.

Users should review a diagnostic report before sending it and should avoid including information they do not want to share.

9. Accounts, Advertising, Analytics, and Tracking

The current version of Food Facts Scanner:

Does not require a user account;
Does not contain third-party advertising;
Does not use cross-app tracking;
Does not contain third-party advertising analytics; and
Does not sell barcode, product-search, or locally stored App information.

Ordinary hosting, firewall, and security systems may separately process technical request information for reliability, fraud prevention, abuse prevention, and security monitoring.

10. Caching, Rate Limiting, and Retention

NUNU-operated food-lookup services may temporarily cache successful product responses for up to 12 hours and not-found responses for up to one hour. Cache records are indexed by the lookup value and are not associated with a Food Facts Scanner account, advertising identifier, or server-side scan-history profile.

To protect the service from excessive use, short-lived hourly rate-limit records may be maintained. Per-client rate-limit records use a salted hash derived from the requesting network address rather than storing the raw address in the rate-limit record. Rate-limit records expire after approximately one hour.

Expired cache and rate-limit records may remain in protected backup snapshots until those backups rotate out under NUNU Radio’s backup-retention schedule, which may be up to approximately eight weeks. Backups are maintained for disaster recovery and security and are not used for advertising or tracking.

Local history, favorites, pantry items, shopping lists, manual records, settings, evidence, and related App information remain on the device until deleted by the user, removed with the App, or affected by Apple-controlled backup and restoration features.

11. Deleting Information

Users may delete supported local records from within the App. Removing the App also removes its locally stored information, subject to Apple-controlled device backups and restoration settings.

Information previously exported or shared must be deleted from the destination where the user chose to save or send it.

12. External Services

Food Facts Scanner may use or display information from services including:

Those providers process requests according to their own privacy policies, terms, and operational practices. Their records may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect.

13. Future Integrations

The App may contain configuration-ready interfaces for future services such as GS1 or GTIN verification and product-recall information. A configuration-ready interface does not mean that a service is active. If a future integration materially changes how information is processed, this Policy and the App Store privacy disclosures will be updated before or when the feature is enabled, as required.

14. Data Security

NUNU Radio uses reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information processed by its services. These safeguards may include encrypted HTTPS connections, access controls, software updates, firewall protection, rate limiting, security monitoring, and backups.

No method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

15. Children’s Privacy

Food Facts Scanner is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. The App does not require an account and NUNU Radio does not knowingly use the App to collect personal information from children under 13.

16. Product-Information and Medical Notice

Food, ingredient, allergen, produce, and nutrition records may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect. Values may differ because of serving-size conversions, preparation methods, formulation changes, database updates, or source-record differences.

Food Facts Scanner provides general informational references only. It does not provide medical advice, diagnose or treat a condition, replace physical package labeling, or replace advice from a qualified medical or nutrition professional. Users should verify important information directly from the current product package and appropriate professional sources.

17. Privacy Rights and Choices

Depending on location and applicable law, users may have rights concerning information processed by NUNU Radio. Privacy-related questions or requests may be submitted through the NUNU Radio Privacy Choices page or by using the contact information below.

Because the current App does not maintain a NUNU account or server-side scan-history profile, local App records should generally be managed directly on the device.

18. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in the App, supporting services, technology, business practices, or applicable requirements. When changes are made, the “Last Updated” date will be revised. Additional notice will be provided where required by law.
